University of Maine at Machias, Maine
(Were you at this show? Please introduce yourself!)
Unfortunately, Im going to remember this show more for all the TRAVELLING than the show itself.
No wait for the injury, too.
THE TRAVEL, PART 1:
See today we set our alarms at 6am in Orono, Maine. Northern Maine near Bangor. Drove down to Portland to do an 11am show. Did a 2 hour show, then packed up and went back up north to Bangor again, then 2/3 hours east to the coast.
Got to Machias just in time. Actually I had my shortest hotel stay ever. We checked in at 6:30. Checked out at 6:45. Just enough time to go to the bathroom, run a washcloth over your face, and get going.
THE SHOW:
The show itself was a blast. The people are very cool. One cute girl wore my sweaty stage hat. (see below)
THE INJURY:
The injury part of my story comes when I was singing my song, "Flexible." I thought, "Hey its called Flexible, so maybe I should do some kind of yoga thing while playing?" I tried laying on my back and bringing my feet back to the floor behind my head. I do it almost every day, but not while playing guitar. This time I accidently flipped over, looked like a fool, almost smashed my guitar, and pulled some muscle in my neck and now I cant turn my head.
THE TRAVEL, PART 2:
So as soon as the last song is done, we pack the vans, and drive home. Leaving Machias at 11:30pm. I get into Providence, Rhode Island at 6:30am. The band got to New York City at 9am or so.
If you look back to the beginning of this page, thats over 24 straight hours of nothing but driving and performing. Ah, the life of a musician.
Luckily, in Providence the hotel I was in that night let me check in WAY early. I slept for 5 hours before my 1pm circus show on the water.
Here I am the bosss 12-year-old son is annoying
as hell and I just want a little silence.
I think SILENCE is the most precious thing in the world. Its so SO hard to find,
isnt it?
And on that note, my solid touring is over for a little while. A few scattered gigs here
& there, but the tough part is done so I CAN GET BACK TO MAKING MY RECORD!!
Ahhh the studio my paradise.
