Lasell College - Newton, Massachusetts
Interesting gig (not!).
The down side of playing colleges:
A typical audience of 8 people giving you blank stares in a bright flourescent-lit cafeteria, while youre playing next to the ice-cream-making machine.
You KNOW it's bad when you do your trusted crowd pleasing covers songs, and they still look at you like a TV. In this case in particular, we found out the only reason to those 8 people were there was for a raffle held before our last song.
Oh the glamour - Oh the enviable position of being a touring musician. You have to swallow pride and bad turkey. You have to say, "Great!" when they point to the place on the cafeteria floor where you'll be performing.
In the same way you hide your emotions when you see only 8 people showed up, you hide your emotions while performing. Because - really who gets all emotional in a cafeteria anyway?
It's cool to dive the depths of your soul in a smoking after hours club. But not at noon, next to a "no smoking"sign, while people are trying to do their homework.
Oh well. We treated ourselves to a sit down fancy Italian dinner with red wine, before going to a friends house on the ocean to spend the night. These things make it seem like you were just at the office for the day. You forget it as soon as you drive home.
